Clubs & Activities

Anchors is a peer to peer group that meets weekly during all three lunches.  Our primary focus is inclusion, tolerance, and diversity.

Culture & Travel Club will be led by Mrs. Tiffany Orsargos and will begin in November. 

2024-2025 was the first season of the new VH Dance Team.  Dancers will have the opportunity to attend regional competitions as well as perform at football & basketball games, pep assemblies and an AHS tailgate. Click here for more info.

E-sports is a club open to all students, no experience is necessary! E-sports is a club that fosters the skills of collaboration, community and teamwork, while participating in a competitive video game setting.

Games will include: Mario Kart, and Super Smash Bros! Meetings will be in the Media Center from 2:45 - 3:45.

Help to make Van Hoosen a greener place for all.  Some possible projects include organizing, advertising, and collecting the school recycling, promoting and running a contest to adopt an endangered animal, having different drives such as an old towel and fleece blanket drive for an animal shelter.   

Green Club is led by Stacy Smiler

HOSA is the newest club at Van Hoosen, and is aimed at students interested in Health Occupations.

Intramurals are after school activities for all grades. Some of the IMs we have run in the past were makerspace, baking class, volleyball, art classes, and dodgeball. All intramurals have a fee to sign up. See all intramurals and register HERE on our Eleyo site.

Math Counts club meets after school weekly and prepares for the Math Counts competitions.

The VH Mentors is a group of 7^th and 8^th graders who come recommended by their 6^th grade teachers.  The mentors are essential in making sure that the 6^th graders have a great transition from elementary to middle school.  They are assigned to a group of 10 or so 6^th graders that they stay in contact with throughout the year.  In a typical year, they meet during the week during homeroom to form relationships by talking and playing games.  Some of the fun things they’ve done with their 6^th graders include: leaving positive notes on their lockers, helping them on the first day of school with their lockers and schedule, meeting up with them before our holiday break to watch a movie and have milk/cookies, our Thriller dance-off done around Halloween, Halloween notes/treats delivered to their homerooms and so much more.

Competitive robotics consists of building and programing a robot to compete in a game in competitions. Students will work on a team to strategize, problem solve, and collaborate. Teams are coached by volunteer parents. We offer FTC and VEX V5 robotics programs here at Van Hoosen. Please visit the VH Robotics website to learn more.

The Van Hoosen M.S. Ski/Snowboard Club is a great activity for the winter months. It is open to all Van Hoosen students, friends, and family. Van Hoosen Ski/Snowboard Club night is Friday. Skiing is not limited to Friday, you can ski/snowboard Monday-Thursday for a discounted rate.

Student Council at VH is a very active group.  We have representatives for 6th grade, 7^th grade and 8^th grade.  In the spring, 15 leaders are elected to run student council. The activities run by StuCo are things like after-school dances, sucker sales, spirit week, pizza kit sales, door decorating, celebrating Veterans Day, staff breakfast, fun lunch time activities, Charity Week, Giving Tree for Rochester Neighborhood House & more.

This is a wonderful way to be involved with the spirit of the building!

The talent show is for students in all grades. Students audition for the show and selected students will attend rehearsals and the final talent show performance.

VH Today is Van Hoosen's morning news show. The news crew meets after school to create a show for the school. Students learn how to write a script, speak on-air, take on a variety of news crew roles, edit a show, and more. VH Today is for 7th and 8th grade students. Applications go out in the spring for the next school year.

Yearbook Club is a group of 6^th, 7^th, and 8^th Grade students who capture the memories of our school year.  Yearbook staff members promote and sell the yearbook, photograph all aspects of student life, design layouts, and write captions and stories to commemorate the school year.
