All eighth grade students take the following year-long classes:  Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.  

In addition to the classes identified above, eighth grade students have two hours available for elective classes. 

Eighth Grade Classes

All seventh grade students take the following classes:  Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Health, and electives.

Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies are year-long classes.  Physical Education and Health are semester-long classes.  Students have one hour of their school day that will be scheduled with either one year-long elective class or two consecutive semester-long classes.

Seventh Grade Classes

All sixth grade students take the following classes:  Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Music and one elective.

Rochester Community Schools believes that career planning at all grade levels is essential for the success of every student. Beginning in the 7th grade, students are introduced to the six Michigan Career Pathways, Career Cruising, and the Education Development Plan (EDP).

Career Pathways assist students to see the relationship between academic classes such as math and science and its significance in career preparation. These six pathways are clustered around careers with common areas of interests, skills and abilities, but are diverse in their training and educational requirements. XELLO (formerly Career Cruising) is the secure online career guidance and planning system which students use in middle school and high school to explore Career Pathways and more. Students can take assessments and surveys about their interests and explore high school classes, training, or degrees needed for various career options. Students can access this tool from home or school. Using XELLO, students development an Education Development Plan, which is an online electronic portfolio that documents each student's academic career by recording: standardized test scores, class schedules, extracurricular activities and events, career assessments and college research information. This portfolio is updated on an annual basis until graduation. Students can access their EDP from home or school and print out copies as desired.
